Leylines plugin guide
For the current beta on Windows, Linux, and macOS (VST3 · CLAP · Standalone).
1 · What Leylines does
Leylines keeps your project and your friend’s project in sync. Each of you puts it on your master bus. When you play, your friend gets what you played. When they play, you get theirs. You each hear the other’s latest version inside your own DAW, and you don’t have to be online at the same time.
It shares whatever you play. If you never play the bridge, your friend won’t have it; rendering the project once fills everything in. Replaying a section replaces your old take, and old takes can be brought back. Audio your friend sent you stays on your machine whether they’re online or not.
Where your audio goes
Leylines encrypts your audio before it leaves your computer and sends it through the relay, which passes it along but cannot read it. A direct peer-to-peer connection is an option. Nothing is stored on a server. Until you start a session, the plugin doesn’t touch the network.
2 · Install per DAW
The installer puts in two plugins. Leylines is an audio effect for sharing audio. Leylines MIDI is an instrument for sharing MIDI parts. Use CLAP if your DAW supports it, otherwise VST3. There’s no AU or AAX yet, so Logic and Pro Tools aren’t supported.
- VST3: Windows
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\· Linux~/.vst3/· macOS~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/ - CLAP: Windows
C:\Program Files\Common Files\CLAP\· Linux~/.clap/· macOS~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/CLAP/
Rescan plugins in your DAW and look under Cybermoon. Put the audio effect last on your master bus. FL Studio only scans the system VST3 folder, so use the path above, then Options → Manage plugins → Find installed plugins.
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine <path>.Capturing is automatic. The one manual step is playing a friend’s MIDI through your own instrument:
| DAW | Formats | Play a peer’s MIDI onto an instrument | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| REAPER | VST3 · CLAP | Add a track MIDI send from the Playback track to the instrument track. | Works |
| Bitwig | VST3 · CLAP | Note Receiver on the instrument track, pointed at the Leylines track. | Works |
| FL Studio | VST3 · CLAP (2024+) | Give the plugin’s MIDI Output port and the synth’s Input port the same number. | Works (primary test host) |
| Studio One | VST3 · CLAP (7+) | Instrument Input → Leylines MIDI on the target track; enable Monitor. | Works |
| Cubase | VST3 only | Input Routing → the Leylines MIDI Out entry; enable Monitor. | Works |
| Ableton Live | VST3 | MIDI From → the Leylines track and the plugin below it; Monitor = In. | Works |
| Logic Pro | AU only | No AU in this build. | Not supported yet |
| Pro Tools | AAX (none shipped) | n/a | Not supported |
MIDI travels as notes only, no CC or pitch-bend. There’s also a Standalone app for trying the UI without a DAW.
3 · Your first session
Click Invite in the header and host a session. You get a three-word code like quiet-violet-river. Your friend clicks Join, types it in, you approve them, and you’re connected. Codes expire and only work once. A session holds up to six people.
Sending needs a sign-in with a license on the account (see Account & licensing). The beta is free and includes a license. Set the name others see under Settings → Network → Display name.
If a network won’t connect, there are two fallbacks. Paste-link (under Advanced · direct connect) trades two blocks of text over any chat app and connects the plugins directly. LAN finds instances on the same Wi-Fi while the Invite panel is open; the other side has to accept.
When a friend goes offline, their lane dims and keeps playing what they already sent. End session disconnects but keeps everything; pick it back up later from Recent sessions.
4 · Roles explained
Where you put the plugin decides its job. On the master bus it’s a Hub: it runs the session and shares your mix. On any other track it’s a Contribute: it shares just that track as a named stem, or that channel’s MIDI with Leylines MIDI. Set to Playback, it plays one of your friend’s stems on a track of yours, through your own effects, or feeds their MIDI into your synth.
Track instances find the Hub on their own. Switch roles in the bottom strip.
5 · Capturing & contributing
Capture is on by default. Every shared lane has a record chip; click it to pause sharing from that source. Pausing never deletes anything already sent. In FL Studio, pause the chip to keep a Pattern-mode sketch private.
To share a whole project at once, render it with Leylines on the bus. That fills your entire timeline in one pass. Silent stretches show as silent, not missing.
6 · Playback & the playlist
The main view is an arrangement: your lane on top, one lane per friend, real waveforms, a playhead that follows your DAW. Click a clip to audition it, restore an older take, pin it, or delete it. Deleting your own clip removes it for everyone and can be restored; deleting a friend’s clip hides it only for you.
Each lane has volume, mute, and solo. They change what you hear, not what you share. The header chips are Send, Receive, and Freeze, which holds playback still while new audio keeps arriving. A friend’s stems appear as extra lanes under their main one.
7 · Chat & files
There’s a chat bubble bottom-right. It never opens itself. You can pin a message to a bar, and there’s a pencil tool for drawing on the playlist. Chat and drawings last as long as the session.
Files stick around. Drag anything up to 256 MB onto the chat; it travels the same encrypted way as the audio, resumes after disconnects, and the chip is still there when you reopen the project. Drag the chip out to save it.
8 · Account & licensing
No license files or serial numbers. Enter your email under Settings → Account, click the link we send you, and the plugin signs itself in. Manage your account at account.cybermoonaudio.com.
Each sign-in check is good for 30 days offline. Signed out, license inactive, or offline past that window, the plugin stops sending until you sign in again. You can still hear your session.
What each one gives you
| Tier | What you get |
|---|---|
| Leylines Plugin | Full send and receive. |
| Leylines Cloud | Cloud sync and an always-on archival peer, so your crew can pick up a session even when you are offline. Coming soon, not live yet. |
Leylines is in open beta and licenses come directly from Cybermoon. Fill the survey, confirm your email, and you’re in.
9 · Troubleshooting & FAQ
The plugin doesn’t appear in my DAW
Make sure it’s in a folder your DAW scans (paths in Install) and force a rescan. FL ignores per-user folders. On macOS, a build that never shows up is usually still quarantined.
Connecting never completes
Usually one side is on a strict network, like a phone hotspot or a corporate firewall. Try another network, the same Wi-Fi with LAN, and let your DAW make outbound UDP connections. The relay handles most strict networks and comes free with every license.
LAN discovery sees nothing
Both sides need the Invite panel open, on the same network. Guest Wi-Fi isolation and VPN kill switches are the usual culprits; UDP port 45917 needs to be allowed.
A friend’s lane has gaps
They haven’t played those bars yet. Ask them to play through the section, or render their project once.
My collaborators stopped receiving my new takes
Check the Send chip in the header, the per-peer send toggle in their lane popover, and whether you’re still signed in. A signed-out or lapsed copy hears everything but sends nothing.
A friend’s MIDI part isn’t playing in FL
The Playback instance needs their MIDI stream selected, the track needs an instrument on it, and the MIDI port numbers have to match.
Where does Leylines keep its data?
Settings: %APPDATA%\Cybermoon\ on Windows, ~/.config/Cybermoon/ on Linux, ~/Library/Application Support/Cybermoon/ on macOS. Cached audio lives per project under the folder shown in Settings → Cache. Crash reports stay on your machine and are never uploaded.
